Question 4 - DRAFT

Research and planning:

YouTube was one of the main research source which helped me to discover useful music videos for my case studies. We could look at existing music videos to get ideas and apply it to our video. This could be shot types or editing techniques or a similar storyline from the same artist.

Moodle helped with documents we needed for tasks like call sheets, risk assessments, measurements for our digipack, treatment guide and templates.

Whatsapp: helped with communicating with other members of the group and organise team meetings or link ups for another shoot or photography session. This also helped with gathering feedback from friends.

Construction:

We used the Canon DSLR camera for photography and the music video. The cameras were quite straightforward to use after we were taught on how to use this. We were taught the basic of the camera on settings we were taught on exposure, focus settings and the adjustments. Angles and positioning of the camera came naturally and worked well with what we had. I’ve used a camera before and my photography skills are good because I do graphics so that helps with any design work in media. Overall, the experience of using the camera was good because of the outcome of both print products and music video.

Camera equipment: we used a tripod and a hand held tripod to get steady shots. We used artificial lights for most of the shots to capture the facial expressions, most of our shoots were taken in the evening so it was quite dark anyway therefore an artificial light was used.

Final cut pro: This technology helped us edit the whole music video on the IMAC. I had no experience with this software in the past but I got the hand of it after one session of using it. We worked as a group and learnt different things while working with each other. We also used YouTube to help us with some elements such as how to do a split screen which is seen in our music video.  We all took turns in editing so we get a fair chance on it.

Adobe Photoshop: I used Photoshop to create the digipack. I use Photoshop all the time in graphics and I know more than the basics which helped a lot when editing my images. I’m creative and good with design so the layout and positioning of the product was fine for me. I did a few experimentation work before my final outcome and I just kept developing my ideas to get to where I am now and that’s key to design work, you just keep developing to get to your final outcome.

Evaluation:

Prezi: Prezi is simple and easy to use which is why I chose to use this for one of my questions, I use Prezi quite a lot to present my work because it’s visually appealing and easily embedded onto blogger.

Slide share: slide share is one of the easiest technologies to use because its PowerPoint uploaded on the internet. Easy to apply plenty of information and still make it look presentable. This technology doesn’t take too much time to produce which is why I chose it for question 1.

Blogger: This helped document all our work and keep up to date on where we are. We can easily keep it updated from our phones and it helps to keep all my stuff in one place in order.
My skills have developed a lot since last year, Photoshop skills have developed massively and I have learnt how to use a final cut pro which was new to me. My design skills have improved by a lot since last year and I am able to develop my work further to make it look professional and sophisticated.

Question 2 -DRAFT

Themes:  our music video has a similar theme going on in our digipack. In our music video we started off in the studio with a black backdrop instead of white which is the only difference but her facial expressions are similar in both products. In our music video we used three different locations but we used one of the locations for our digipack which was the studio. In the music video she’s expressing herself in the studio, same way we decided to have her in the studio expressing her feeling which is shown by her facial expressions. The use of brightness and contrast gave the image a more professional look. Our music video is mostly artificial light which made it easier to get the facial expressions shown clearly and I replicated this on my digipack. The lyrics linked to the music video and the digipack because from the start we wanted it to link in a way which the audience can recognise that this belongs to this and we made a clear link between every element of our media product. The enigma codes throughout the video makes the audience want to follow more. Three different locations followed three themes. This is a mixture of themes instead of one which is an element of post modernism

Content: my digipack was inspired by Adele’s 21 album. Adele’s album has an emotional feel to it which is what I was going for. Adele normally has a CD and the cover and of course advertisement. I wanted to keep it simple like hers because the simplicity of the product will grab the audience’s attention and will also look visually appealing. The images taken for the digipack are similar to hers with the extreme close up with the model touching her hair.  The album is colour whereas Adele’s covers are black and white. This is because our music video is colour so it makes sense to make the digipack colour. The font used is quite simple to add to the simple digipack.

House style: I used Adele for inspiration because I really liked the idea of how simple it was but grabbed a lot of attention. The colours I chose were neutral, these were: blush pink, black and off white. The model was wearing blush pink in the images taken which added a pop of colour. The black and off white was taking from the backdrop and the models jacket. I wanted to have colours that already exist in the image instead of having random colours that don’t work well with each other. The back cover wasn’t inspired by anyone I just used my creative skills to produce that part of the cover. The idea of the long shot and text was used because it worked well together, my initial idea was to have both covers with an extreme close up but to me it didn’t look as appealing as It does now. Her posture and facial expression works extremely well with the front cover and the music video. The bottom of the album there are credits and logo of the companies which took part and I got this from looking at existing digipacks.

Language: the language which I had used on the front and back cover was to fit the basic format of any album and this was consistent in all my products.

Imagery: we had used three different location for the music video which shows a part of the story and their relationship. The house: this is the beginning of the music video where it introduces both the models. Studio: both the models are sat in the studio but not together. The female is telling her story and the male says his part too. You see snippets of both models having a laugh, we put those in to show how things were back then when they were together and them walking away from each other is them going their separate ways. Oxford street: last scene where both the models on the phone to each other (split screen) the female model walks off in heels which shows that she’s fierce and independent and she can make decisions for herself and doesn’t need a male to be by her side to succeed. We used artificial light for most of the video. The idea of the model walking away at the end is to show that she’s walking away from the problems and is ready for a change.

Advertisement: This would be advertised in social media platforms and magazines such as XXL and other popular music magazines which fit the genre. This will allow the product to grow by sharing it. Popular networks will be able to promote the product and the more audience the better. Our music video can also be advertised on YouTube adverts or on streaming platforms for promotion.

Comparing my media product to a real product, I believe that it’s just as good because it has a professional feel to it and is consistent throughout. The shot types, angles, editing and the theme all work well together. If I was operating in the real world I wouldn’t extend the package because it looks good as any other existing digipack.
